Why St. Pete?

Growth and Gospel Need

St. Petersburg is the fifth largest city in Florida, and as a part of the Tampa Bay area, is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. With this growth, an estimated 70% of St. Pete residents are unchurched. God has graciously used church plants to effectively reach unchurched peoples. We desire to be a St. Pete church that effectively partners with the city for Gospel renewal.

Diversity

St. Pete is a beautiful city made up of people from all walks of life with a clear passion for the arts displayed throughout the city in murals and exhibits. There is a prominent LGBT community, a large retiree population, trendy students, many ethnic backgrounds, and everyone in between.

We believe that the Gospel transcends human divisions and we hope to reach all types of people with the love of Christ. Like many cities in America, St. Pete has a tragic history of racial division that we hope to work towards diminishing by the power of the Gospel and intentional reconciliation.

Existing Relationships

Our sending church, Covenant Life Church in Tampa, had several families that drove from St. Petersburg. While CLC had been an excellent church family for them, many of these St. Pete residents longed to be part of a closer church to which they could easily invite neighbors.

Love for the City

As a St. Pete church, we desire to be where our families can grow and thrive. Our personalities, interests, and strengths have given us a love for St. Pete and her people. We believe God is calling us to plant our lives and families in St. Pete in the hope that He will grow His church and many will come to faith in Christ.
