Mission & Values

“We exist to glorify God by building a community that treasures Christ as King and displays His truth, beauty and love to St. Petersburg and the nations.”

We seek to live out this mission through the values below.

Treasuring Christ

God is the ruler over all of creation and He has exalted Christ, giving humanity the ultimate revelation of God in Jesus (John 3:35, Phil 2:9-10). Jesus is the once and for all sacrifice who is the perfect ruler of our lives (Rev 19:16, Hebrews 1:3-4). We find our joy through following Christ’s rule, not by pursuing our own sinful desires (Phil 3:8). God calls Christians to a life of joy and holiness (Phil 4:4,1 Peter 1:16). This call to devotion and obedience leads to our good and ultimate satisfaction, as we submit to the good and just authority of our perfect King Jesus.

Gospel Family

Upon trusting Christ for salvation, believers are adopted by God and united with one another. This bond found in Christ transcends any other interest or identity (John 1:12, Ephesians 2:19-22). In this shared bond we strive to live together in gospel saturated community, sharing the same grace with others that we have been given (Acts 20:24, Ephesians 2:8). We seek to display this new reality in the dedication, depth, and diversity of our relationships which transcend cultural, social, ethnic, and political differences (Ephesians 1:4-10, 2:13-22).

Transformative Truth

God’s word is Truth and thus authoritative over and sufficient for every aspect of our lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Because God’s word is the basis of our lives, we teach Scripture expositionally, teaching directly from the text of Scripture in context (Matthew 4:4, John 17:17). We believe that right knowledge leads to right action; therefore, we train theologically for the purpose of practicing godliness in our communities.

Radiant Beauty

God is the originator and perfection of beauty (Ecclesiastes 3:11). In a world marred by sin, divisiveness, and broken relationships, God is at work in His church to redeem what has been broken. We recognize God as the standard of beauty (Psalm 50:2) and through Christ’s atoning work, we display His beauty as the Gospel is made visible through the church. We believe that the Gospel brings true beauty to our city and has a vital impact on the arts, business, government, media, and academy. Christ compels us to become generous servants by committing our time, talents, and money to meeting the needs of our city.

Uniting Love

At the cross, Christ poured out his life as a once for all sacrifice that united believers to God, and to one another (1 John 4:10). This radical love leads believers to uncomfortable self-sacrifice as we seek to serve our communities and hold others in higher regard than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). We aim to be a people that are known by our love: Our love for God, our love for the church, and our love for others.

Urgent Mission

Christians are given a clear mission from Christ to make disciples of all peoples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe Christ’s commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). We recognize that our single church is not sufficient to renew all of our city spiritually, socially, and culturally. Therefore, we are committed to planting (and helping others plant) new churches, while at the same time working for a renewal of gospel vitality and unity in all existing congregations of the city (Ephesians 4:1-6). This is not only our desire for the city, but for all the nations of the world.
